Zero Depreciation (Zero Dep) is one of the most popular add-ons for luxury vehicle insurance in India. Almost every BMW owner buys it. But most don't actually know what it covers — and the gaps can cost lakhs at claim time.
Standard comprehensive insurance applies depreciation when calculating claim payouts. The older your car, the less you get. A 3-year-old BMW needing a new bumper? The insurer might pay only 50% of the part cost — you pay the rest out of pocket.
Zero Dep removes this depreciation penalty. In theory, the insurer pays the full replacement cost of parts, regardless of the car's age. That's the selling point. The problem is what "full replacement cost" actually means in practice — and it varies dramatically between insurers.
Zero Dep is not a standardized product. Each insurer defines its scope differently. The differences show up in the fine print — and only become visible at claim time, when it's too late to change anything.
"I thought Zero Dep meant everything was covered. Nobody told me my run-flat tyres were excluded. When I needed them replaced after a pothole, I paid ₹80,000 out of pocket." — BMW 5 Series owner, Gurugram
One of the strongest Zero Dep offerings for luxury vehicles. Tyres and batteries are included in most policies. Cashless network for BMW in Delhi NCR is strong — 3 authorised service centres. Claim settlement average: 24–48 hours for straightforward claims.
Competitive premium pricing but tyres and batteries are typically excluded from Zero Dep. Fast claim settlement (often same-day for smaller claims) but the exclusions make it a weaker proposition for luxury vehicles where tyre replacement costs are high.
Mid-range option. Tyres are included in Zero Dep but batteries are excluded. Cashless network for BMW is thinner than ICICI Lombard. Good for owners who want tyre coverage at a lower premium.
Strong overall policy but requires careful checking of the policy wording. Zero Dep scope varies by policy variant — the standard variant excludes tyres, the enhanced variant includes them at a higher premium.
Run-flat tyres on a BMW 5 Series cost ₹18,000–₹25,000 per tyre. A full set replacement is ₹72,000–₹1,00,000. If your Zero Dep policy excludes tyres, you pay this entirely out of pocket — regardless of whether the damage was from an accident or a road hazard.
A battery replacement on a BMW 7 Series can cost ₹45,000–₹80,000. An AGM battery on a 5 Series runs ₹25,000–₹40,000. Again — excluded from most standard Zero Dep policies.
When we compare policies for BMW owners, we verify the exact Zero Dep scope — not the brochure, but the actual policy wording. We confirm tyre and battery coverage, the claims limit per year, and the cashless garage list for your specific car in Delhi NCR before recommending any policy.
Send us your policy document on WhatsApp. We'll check the Zero Dep scope, IDV, and cashless network — and tell you exactly if you're getting value for money.
